Background History

Rugby is a type of football that was develop at a Rugby school in Rugby,Warwickshire. It is one of the many versions of football that was played in the 19th century. Rugby is split into two main types the Rugby League and Rugby Union. Even though, they use to play by the same rules they are now two separate sports entirely. It is belived that rugby was originated from a greek game called Episkyros and these games appear to have resembled rugby football. And is recognised as an early form of football.During the late 1800s, the two forms of the game were very similar to the point where the United States was able to win the gold medal for rugby union at the 1924 Summer Olympics.

In the game they use a rugby ball, originally called a quanco, it's a diamond shape ball used for easier passing. The ball was made by Richard Lindon and Bernardo Solano who started making balls for Rugby school out of hand stitched, four-panel, leather casings and pigs’ bladders. The first ever Rugby World Cup, was first held in New Zealand and Australia in 1987,which occurs every four years. It is an international tournament organized by World Rugby. The event is played in the union format and features the top 20 teams from around the world. Soon the rules of rugby league were modified, resulting in two distinctly different forms of rugby. After 100 years, in 1995 rugby union joined rugby league and most other forms of football as an openly professional sport.
